What happens to your information when you browse BookWayfinder, share a page or email us, and how to use your privacy rights.

You can browse without an account. Book search and mood filters run in your browser. We do not submit your search text to a search service or save your choices for your next visit. BookWayfinder does not currently use visitor analytics tools or set its own advertising or analytics cookies.
Delivering the website
Vercel hosts BookWayfinder. When you open a page, Vercel receives technical request information, such as your IP address, browser information and the requested page, to deliver the site and handle faults or misuse. Our legal basis for this necessary processing is our legitimate interest in providing a functioning, secure website. Our hosting plan makes function runtime logs available for one day. This is not a deletion deadline for all provider records: Vercel handles other service and security information under its own retention policies.

Some book covers load directly from Amazon. When one loads, your browser connects to Amazon, which receives your IP address and standard browser request information. This happens even if you do not click a retailer link. We request these images without Amazon cookies or the referring page address. Amazon still receives the site's origin as part of the image request. Amazon's privacy notice explains its handling of information, cookies and similar technologies.

Our Amazon links include an affiliate tag so Amazon can attribute qualifying purchases to BookWayfinder. We do not collect click histories through these buttons. Following a retailer link takes you to that retailer's website, where its own privacy notice and cookie practices apply. BookWayfinder does not receive your payment details or process your order.
About our retailer linksSharing a page
Copy link puts the page address on your clipboard. Share opens your device's sharing options. The Facebook, X, WhatsApp and email links pass the page address and, where relevant, its title to the service you choose. The address we share does not include personal query parameters. We do not automatically post anything to your accounts.
When you email us
We receive your email address, any name your email shows, your message, attachments and normal delivery details. We use these to answer your question or assess a correction. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to messages you send and keeping our book information accurate (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We do not add you to a mailing list or use your message for marketing. Please include only personal details needed for your question.
Who handles your email
Cloudflare routes incoming BookWayfinder mail to our Google Workspace mailbox. The people handling correspondence for Staycool Airconditioning can read and respond to it there; Google sends our replies. These providers also process delivery and security information as part of their email services.
How long we keep email
Our policy is to delete ordinary BookWayfinder correspondence, including replies and attachments, no later than 12 months after we finish handling it, with monthly cleanup. You can request earlier deletion. If a specific legal duty or dispute requires us to retain a record, we keep only what is needed for that purpose for as long as necessary. Email providers have separate schedules for technical logs and backup copies; the 12-month period describes our ordinary correspondence policy.
International services
Vercel, Cloudflare, Google and Amazon operate internationally. Website and email information may be processed outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Our website functions run in Vercel's US region, and content delivery uses its international network. Vercel, Cloudflare and Google's data-processing terms provide for safeguards such as European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable. Amazon explains its own arrangements in its privacy notice linked above. Contact us for more information or a copy of the relevant safeguards.
Your privacy rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete personal information we hold, restrict its use, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Data portability and withdrawal of consent apply where the law provides those rights. Email us to make a request; we may need limited information to confirm your identity. We normally respond within one month and will explain any lawful extension or reason we cannot grant a request. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority or your local supervisory authority.
